Layering text with observational drawing
For this work I wrote lyrics to "Desert Song" by My Chemical Romance in biro and then drew the lead singer in 2B pencil from a photograph. I then added the title at the bottom in red sharpie and used hairspray to make some of the biro text smudge and fade on the page. This was an experimental piece looking at combing text and observational drawing in layers which is something I previously did on my Leonardo Da Vinci page. I continued the use of red sharpie but didn't use the coffee stained background as I feel these tones didn't complement each other. I think using hairspray didn't add to the piece as I had hoped and perhaps focussing of the left area of text in the background would have achieved a more balanced composition. Also by writing before I did the observational drawing it made it difficult to keep the proportions correct and the background seemed to distort the image as I drew it.
